Dordt Men Tabbed First In GPAC Poll

(Thursday, October 11; Sioux Center, Iowa)  The Dordt College Defender men’s basketball team is the preseason coaches selection to win the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships for 2012-13.

The Defenders totaled nine first place votes and 99 points in the balloting done by the 11 conference coaches.  Points were awarded on a 10-1 basis and coaches could not vote for their own team.

Dordt went 17-3 in conference play last season and 30-5 overall to win the school’s first ever men’s basketball title.  The Defenders advanced to the NAIA Division II National Tournament and won two games before their season ended in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

Dordt returns its top eight scorers from a team that outscored opponents 81-70.1 last season and had Trevor Wolterstorff named to the NAIA Division II second team all-American squad and Cliff Warner was an honorable mention last season.

Dordt opens the 2012-13 season on the road against Bellevue University on October 30.  Dordt opens the home portion of its season Friday, November 2 against Jamestown and opens GPAC play on Saturday, November 17 against Doane.
