Dordt Soccer Hosts Final Home Match

GAMETIME… Dordt College will host  Morningside on Tuesday, October 23 starting at 2:00 and the men follow at about 4:00.  Audio of the games can be heard at  Results will be posted on ; and .

SCOUTING REPORT… Morningside is 8-5-4 overall and stand 4-3-2 in the GPAC and this its final game of the regular season.  The Mustangs have won three of its last four since back to back scoreless ties with Northwestern and Hastings. Morningside has outscored teams 25-23 and have outshot teams on goal 137-118.  Miranda Gonka leads the team with ten goals and Kelsey Niles with five goals and six assists.  Amy Samuelson has four goals and five assists and Breanna Turner has found the goal four times.  Felicia Remann has played 1473 minutes in goal with 21 goals allowed for a 1.28 per-90 minutes played average and she has 88 saves.

The Morningside men take a 6-9-2 overall record into its regular season finale and the Mustangs are 4-3-2 in the league.  The Mustangs have a tie with Dakota Wesleyan and a 2-1 loss to Nebraska Wesleyan in their last two outings.  They beat Mount Marty and Concordia on the road prior to that.  The Mustangs have been outscored 35-32 and have outshot teams on goal 145-114.  Saxx Adams leads the team with nine goals and also has four assists.  Cameron Meter has seven goals and Chico Hernandez is the team leader in assists with six and he also has four goals scored.  Evaristo Hernandez has played 882 minutes in goal and has allowed 19 goals for a 1.94 per-90 minutes played average.  Eduie Curiel has played 596 minutes in goal and has allowed 15 goals and has 28 saves.

DORDT COLLEGE NOTES…The Defenders are 1-12-3 this season and 0-7-1 in the GPAC.  Dordt has been outscored 54-20 and outshot on goal 169-78.  Allison Hogan has five goals and Sarah Byron four.  Marissa Le Duc and Allison Hogan each have a team high three assists.  Emily Holz has been playing keeper for Dordt and has allowed 27 goals in 547 minutes.

Dordt is 9-6-1 this season and 5-2-1 in the GPAC.  Dordt has a 7-2-1 home record and has outscored teams by a total of 43-25.  Eric Grootenboer is the top goal scorer with ten and Josh Brinkerhoff has nine goals and two assists.  Brady Van Holland has scored six goals and leads the team in assists with seven.  Jon Brinkerhoff has played 1472 minutes in goal and has allowed 25 goals—a 1.53 goals per-90 minutes played average.

THE SERIES… The Dordt women lead the series with Morningside 10-5 and the Defenders won last year’s game 1-0.  Steph Cooper scored the game winner in the 88th minute. 

The Defender men trail the series 10-5 and on last year’s contest 1-0 in double overtime and got the game winner in the final minute of the second overtime with Eric Grootenboer getting the game winner off an assist by Derick Sackey.

LAST TIME… Morningside beat Nebraska Wesleyan 2-0 on October 20 while getting outshot on goal 8-7.  Reimann got the shutout with Turner scoring in the 58th minute and Gonka scored in the 65th minute.

Dordt lost to Doane on Saturday 6-0 in women’s play.  The Defenders were outshot 25-2 in the loss.

The Morningside men were 2-1 losers to Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday.  Forrest Maxon tied the game in the 78th minute but Wesleyan won it on a goal in the 98th minute.  Morningside was outshot on goal 7-6 and Curiel had five saves.

Dordt had a 1-0 lead late in its game with Doane on Saturday but ended up in a 1-1 tie after allowing a goal in the 85th minute.  Dordt’s goal came in the 38th minute when Eric Grootenboer found the net off an assist by Brady Van Holland.  Dordt outshot Doane 9-2 and Jon Brinkerhoff had a save in goal for the Defenders.

NEXT UP……Morningside will await a conference playoff assignment while Dordt concludes the regular season at Hastings on Saturday, October 27.
