Dordt Football Faces Morningside Saturday

THE FOE… Hastings is 6-0 in the GPAC and 7-0 overall.  The Mustangs had not allowed more than ten points in a game this season up until their most recent game, a 53-23 win over Hastings,  and have scored at least 28 points in each of their games this season.  The Mustangs have outscored teams 30-4-57 and outgain teams 483-262 per game.

Morningside has run 331 times this year for 1275 total yards and they have thrown 210 passes, completing 130 for 2111 yards.  Joel Nicxon has run for 354 yards on 71 carries and Jon Halvorson has 67 rushes for 316 yards.  Josh Gaedke is averaging 3.3 yards per rush on 77 carries and Fred Jones has 72 rushes with a 3.4 average.  Halvorson tops the team with five rushing touchdowns.  Joel Nixon has completed 123-200 passes for 288 yards per game and 25 touchdowns against eight interceptions.  Joel McCabe is Nixon’s favorite target with 43 catches for a 16.4 average with 10 touchdowns and Kyle Schuck has 26 catches for seven touchdowns and a 171 yards per catch average.

Ty Littzen is 3-7 on field goals with a long of 51 yards and he has made 35-40 point after attempts.  Jordan Sitzman has punted 38 times for a 36.8 average.

Chris Calvillo has 28 solo and 30 assisted stops with nine tackles for loss.  Aaron Roberg has 16 solo and 35 assisted tackles with two interceptions.  Jared Goforth has 27 solo and 18 assisted tackles with a team high five interceptions.  Sean Elliott has 23 solo tackles with 12 assisted and he has two sacks.  Marcus Smith and Bret Doorenbos share team honors with three sacks each.
Nixon ranks number one in the NAIA in passing efficiency; number two in total offense per game and number four in passing yards per game.  Joel McCabe is number in receiving yards per game.

THE DEFENDERS…Dordt is 1-7 overall and 0-6 in league play.  Dordt has been outscored 253-124 this season and have outgained teams on the ground 224-168 per game this season while surrendering 265 yards per game in the air and getting 101 yards passing themselves.
Trai Pickney has 61 carries for 471 yards and a 7.7 per carry average with a team high four touchdowns.  Daniel Fennig has 44 carries for 316 yards and Lenard Manuel 56 totes for 289 yards and a 5.2 yards per carry average.  Kyle Henricks has completed 44-101 passes for 660 yards and two touchdowns with eight interceptions.  David Griess has 16 receptions for a 14.1 yards per catch average and Trai Pickney has 13 catches for a 17.0 average.

Barry Dykstra is 2-5 on field goals with a long of 29 and he is 14-15 on point after attempts.  Heath Boonestroo has punted 19 times for a 40.3 yards per punt average.

Seth Vande Voort tops the team with 44 solo and 40 assisted tackles with 5.5 tackles for loss.  Vanoy Harris has 40 solo and 25 assisted tackles with a fumble recovery and Ray Cleveland has 40 solo tackles with 23 assists and has three interceptions.  Sam Ashmore has been in on 34 solo tackles and while Anthony Hallum and Josh Nollmeyer each have two interceptions.  Jon Gardner tops the team with three quarterback sacks.

THE LAST TIME THEY PLAYED… The Mustangs beat Hastings 53-23 on Saturday after getting up 27-3 at halftime.  Morningside outgained Hastings 563-423 with 380 yards in the air and 183 on the ground.  Halvorson had 17 carries for 88 yards.  Joel Nixon had 48 yards on eight carries and also completed 23-32 passes for 380 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions.  Joel McCabe had eight catches for 158 yards and Kyle Allen had eight catches for 93 yards.  Kyle Schuck had four receptions for 108 yards.  Chris Calvillo had five solo and six assisted stops with Jared Goforth in on four solo and four assisted stops with an interception.  Colby Henderson and Aaron Roberg each had one interception.

Dordt held off Dakota State 24-7 on October20.  Dordt outgained the Trojans 452-340 with Trai Pickney getting 88 yards on eight carries while going 71 yards for a touchdown.  Josh Van Kempen and Daniel Fennig had 48 and 45 yards respectively.  Henricks an Manuel also had 44 and 42 yards as Dordt accumulated 286 yards on the ground.  Henricks completed one pass, a 54 scoring strike to David Griess.

HISTORY… Morningside is 4-0 against the Defenders and beat Dordt 70-0 last season, scoring 42 points in the second half.  Morningside had 627 yards of offense  and had the ball for 31.24 of the game.  Fred Jones ran for 150 yards on 18 carries and Levi Owen had eight carries for 62 yards.  Kyle Nikkel was 20-29 passing for 238 yards and two touchdowns.

AROUND THE CORNER… Morningside will host Concordia next week while Dordt is hosting Doane College on Saturday, November 3.
