Defender Women Home Wednesday

GAMETIME...The Defender women's basketball team will host AIB on Wednesday, November 14 with a 6:00 tipoff.  The game can be heard on KDCR 88.5 FM and there will be a live webcast available at www.dordt.edu/athletics.

SCOUTING REPORT… AIB is 1-2 this season with a win over Graceland to its credit by an 84-70 margin.  The losses for AIB are to Waldorf and the College of Saint Mary by scores of 92-69 and 101-75 respectively.

The Eagles average 76 points per game and allow 87.7 points per outing.  The Eagles are making 35.1 percent of the field goals they try and allow opponents to make 43.5 percent of the field goals they attempt.  AIB trails in the rebounding department by a 45.7-43.7 margin but they have forced nearly 24 turnovers per game while committing 21 per outing.

Megan Howard knocks down 14.7 points per game  and has converted 20-21 free throws.  Katira Young is averaging 14.3 points per game and snags 5.7 rebounds with two assists.  Hannah Redinius is the leading rebounder with an 11.0 per game average and she also accounts for 12.3 points per game and converts a team high 45.8 percent of her shots.  McKinsey Nessa is averaging 8.7 points per game and Michelle Miller 7.7.

DEFENDER NOTES… The Defenders are 1-4 this season and this is the final tune-up before the GPAC season begins.  Dordt is averaging 67.4 points per game and allow 62.6 points per outing.  The Defenders are getting outrebounded 36-32.4 and are making 40.5 percent of the field goals they try while foes are converting 41.9 percent of their shots.

Kara Van Dyke scores 14.6 points per game and grabs 7.6 rebounds.  The junior post player is making 51.9 percent of her field goals.  Brianna Spronk has her scoring average up to 11.6 points per game and Elise Maresh is good for 8.4 points per game.  Maresh ranks second in rebounds with a 6.2 average.  Jasmin Schelhaas has stepped in and scores 7.6 points per game and is 7-15 on three-point attempts for 46.7 percent success. 

NEXT… AIB plays at Simpson on Tuesday, November 20 while the Defenders open the GPAC season on Saturday, November 17 at 1:00.

LAST TIME…AIB lost to the College of Saint Mary on November 10 by a score of 101-75.  The Eagles were 24-73 from the field for 32.9 percent success and the Flames were 36-79 from the floor for 45.6 percent.  McKinsey Nessa scored 20 for the Eagles and Hannah Redenius added ten with 13 rebounds.  Alex Burkarstmeier chipped in with 15 points off the bench in 20 minutes of play.  Nessa converted 4-6 three-point baskets as the Eagles made 12-23 as a team.  The Eagles turned the ball over 26 times to 21 times for the College of Saint Mary.  The Flames had a slight 47-46 rebounding edge. 

Roberts Wesleyan upended Dordt 70-54 on Saturday in Chicago at a tournament hosted by Moody Bible Institute.  Elise Maresh had 16 points for the Defenders while Kara Van Dyke added 13 with five rebounds.  Jasmin Schelhaas scored nine points and had three rebounds.  The Defenders were outrebounded 30-23 and committed 12 turnovers to 10 for Roberts Wesleyan.

HISTORY…AIB and Dordt have played twice with the two teams winning on their home floor.  AIB stormed back from a late deficit to win a 66-64 decision.  The game was marred by 63 turnovers combined by the two teams.  Dordt had a 51-29 rebounding advantage and converted 7-20 three-point shots.  Jessica Jelsema was good for 14 points with seven rebounds and Kara Van Dyke had 13 points.  Brianna Spronk added six points and had ten rebounds.

MILESTONES…With one point Brianna Spronk will move into 25th place on the all-time scoring list with 743 points and she is one rebound shy of cracking the top-15 with 482 caroms.
