(Monday, February 4; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Dalton Franken, a senior at Atlantic High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender basketball program.

Franken, a 6-6, 195 pound guard/forward, is averaging 18 points and nine rebounds for the Trojans.  He’s a four-year starter and earned first team all-conference honors as a junior along with Class 3A second-team all-state honors from the Associated Press and third-team all-state honors from the Iowa Newspaper Association.   Franken earned second-team all-conference honors as a sophomore and has scored over 1,000 points in his high school career.  He is a 2013 McDonald’s All-American nominee.

Franken also competed in track and football during his high school career and earned second-team all-conference honors in football and was a state qualifier in long jump as a freshman and sophomore.

“We are certainly elated to add Dalton to our program.  He is a high level athlete and competitor who has the ability to be an impact player for our program,” said Dordt College coach Ross Douma. “Dalton has developed his skills under the direction of high school coach Steve Blazek and as a member of the Kingdom Hoops program led by Jake Sullivan.   Dalton is a well-rounded young man who not only excels on the basketball floor, but also strives to do well academically and in various leadership positions.  We look forward to working with Dalton over the next four years and having him as part of our campus community.”

Dalton is the son of Greg and Tina Franken of Atlantic, Iowa.  He plans to study business or criminal justice at Dordt College.
