Four Meet National Track Standards

(Thursday, February 7; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Four athletes met NAIA National Track And Field qualifying standards with their performances on Saturday, February 2.

Meeting the “A” standard for automatic qualification were Ryan Tholen (Senior; Tracy, Minnesota) and Erin Francis (Junior; Carrolton, Texas).  Hitting the “B” standard for provisional qualification were Briana Vander Woude (Senior, Clara City, Minnesota) and Christy Sikkema (Junior; Ridgetown, Ontario).

Tholen ran the 800 meters in 1:54.40 which was under the needed 1:56.00 for automatic qualification and Francis ran the 55 meter hurdles in :07.69 which was better than the standard of :07.72.

Vander Woude’s time of 07:31 in the 55 meter dash was just under the “B” standard of :07.32 and shy of the :07.11 “A” standard.  Christy Sikkema went 10.93 meters in the triple jump which was better than the “B” standard set at 10.90 but was short of the “A” standard of 11.10.

The Defenders will host a meet on Saturday, February 9 before running in the GPAC Championships on Saturday, February 16 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  The NAIA Championships are set for February 28-March 2.
