Dordt College ag professor earns Master Researcher award

February 17, 2013

On February 7, Dordt College Agriculture Professor Ron Vos was awarded a Practical Farmers of Iowa Master Researcher Award in Ames, Iowa, for his work at Dordt College. The Master Researcher Award recognizes the efforts of those who have conducted extensive on-farm research and demonstrations over an extended period of time.

“When we’re deciding what agriculture research to conduct each year with the college, I ask myself, ‘What are some items that farmers may want to know but not be willing to investigate on their own?’ and from that, we determine possible research to conduct to help answer their questions,” said Vos.

Since 1988, his field-scale research with Dordt College has included examining tillage methods, exploring different weed control methods, doing fertility studies, and testing a variety of cover crops. The research and findings are shared each year with area farmers during the annual Field Day held at the Agriculture Stewardship Center.

Dordt College is one of only a handful of Christian colleges in North America to offer a four-year agriculture program. Learn more about the agriculture program at
