Dordt College music ensembles to perform concerts

The community is invited to attend the following concerts at Dordt College: the Instrumental Ensembles Concert Tuesday, March 5, and the Choral Ensembles Concert on Wednesday, March 6. Both will be held in the B.J. Haan Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday’s concert will include performances by the Campus-Community Band, directed by Bradley Miedema, and the Jazz Band, directed by Kevin Linder.
The Campus-Community Band, made up of 41 Dordt students and 18 community members, will perform works by Todd Stalter, Luigi Zaninelli, Frank Erickson, and Adoniram Gordon. They will also perform The Klaxon march by Henry Fillmore. The jazz band will perform a variety of big band pieces.
Wednesday’s Choral Ensembles Concert will feature each of the choral groups singing a single large work for the concert. The choral groups are directed by Dr. Benjamin Kornelis.
Bella Voce will perform Benjamin Britten’s Missa Brevis and feature Dordt College senior Natalie Vreeken of Warman, Saskatchewan, and senior Lisa Smith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as soloists. Kantorei will perform Dietrich Buxtehude’s Jesus, Joy and Treasure. Chorale will perform Franz Schubert’s Mass in G and will feature soloists freshman Nicole Sparks of Luverne, Minnesota; freshman Marshall Fynaardt of New Sharon, Iowa; and Titus Wamala of Rock Valley, Iowa. Concert Choir will sing Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb with soloists seniors Carolyn Van Der Aa of Byron Center, Michigan; Maria Bouwkamp of Pella, Iowa; Peter Kuipers of Platte, South Dakota; and Emil Talen of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Chorale and Concert Choir will combine to conclude the concert with John Stainer’s I Saw the Lord.
Both concerts are free, with a freewill offering being received to help fund Dordt College music scholarships.
