All-GPAC Honors For Four Defenders

(Wednesday, February 27; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Kara Van Dyke (Junior; Edgerton, Minnesota) headlines a list of three Dordt College basketball players honored in post-season balloting done by the 11 Great Plains Athletic Conference.

Van Dyke earned first-team all-conference honors after leading the Defenders in scoring and rebounding with 12.8 and 7.5 averages respectively.  She also had 46 steals, 32 blocked shots and 52 assists in helping the Defenders to a 16-15 overall record and a 10-10 GPAC mark, good for a sixth place tie.  Van Dyke as a second-team pick in 2012.

Kayla Broekhuis (Junior; Edgerton, Minnesota), Jasmin Schelhaas (Freshman; Pella, Iowa)  and Brianna Spronk (Senior; Edgerton, Minnesota) all earned honorable mention honors, Broekhuis for the second straight year.

Broekhuis averaged 12.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game this season and had 49 assists and 52 steals this season in 26 games played.  She also had a team high 63 three-point baskets made this season.

Schelhaas claimed the honor after starting all 31 games for the Defenders and scored 7.0 points per game with 48 assists and 26 steals.  She converted 35.7 percent of her three-point shots while making 41-115 long range attempts.

Spronk scored 11.1 points and had 5.1 rebounds per game while dishing out a team high 81 assists and snagging 65 steals.  Spronk leaves the program with 1,029 points and 624 career rebounds, ranking 12th and 11th all-time in both categories at Dordt College.

Dordt College completed a 16-15 2012-13 season and was 10-10 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.  Spronk was the lone senior on the roster this year.
