Dordt Baseball In Non-Conference Play Tuesday

GAMETIME… The Dordt Defender baseball team will play a non-conference doubleheader against Midland in Fremont, Nebraska on Tuesday, March 19 starting at 2:30 pm.

SCOUTING REPORT… Midland is 14-7 this season and have won eight of their last ten games.  The Warriors have outscored teams 82-52 through 21 games and have a team batting average of .254 while limiting opponents to a .237 batting average.  The Warriors have a team earned run average of 2.52.

Vinni Orsi tops the team with 23 hits and has a .354 batting average with five doubles and 13 runs batted in and has a team high 10 stolen bases.  Miguel Ramallo and Sean Urzendowski each have 18 and 15 hits respectively.   Urzendowski’s four doubles are second on the team and he shares team honors with Orsi in runs batted in. 

Dylan Stockton is 4-1 on the mound with a 1.38 earned run average and has pitched 26 innings with 25 strikeouts and he has walked six batters.  Dillon Cotner is 4-0 with a 3.96 earned run average and has 25 innings pitched and a team high 27 strikeouts.

DEFENDER NOTES… Dordt is 2-5 this season after returning home from a week long trip to Arizona.  The Defenders have a team batting average of .236 and have been outscored 47-24.

Jason Wapnick is batting .385 with five hits and three doubles.  Nathan Fraley is batting .375 with a team high nine hits and six runs scored.  Nick Serrato is batting .333 and has eight hits.  Andy Kollbaum has a team high four runs batted in in seven games played.

Jeremy Engbers has a 1.59 earned run average in two appearances and five and two-thirds innings of work.  Lucas Carls has eight strikeouts in eight innings of work and Jake Slings has nine strikeouts through seven and two-thirds innings on the mound.  Ben Van Kekerix and Josh Van Kekerix each have wins on the mound for the Defenders.

THE SERIES… Dordt trails the series with Midland 17-9.  The Warriors swept the conference doubleheader by 2-0 and 4-0 margins last season in Fremont. Lucas Carls took the loss in the 2-0 loss after allowing two unearned runs and struck out seven.  Jake Slings went six innings and was charged with three runs—two of them unearned in taking the loss.

NEXT UP… Dordt is scheduled to host Morningside in conference play on Thursday, March 28 starting at 4:00.  Midland will host Jamestown on Thursday, March 21
