Dordt College hosts Biotech Ag Tours
March 25, 2013
Nearly 150 high school students from Northwest Iowa participated in the Dordt College Biotech Ag Tours on Monday, March 18, touring agriculture related businesses in the Sioux Center area. Students toured and learned about Dykstra Dairy near Struble, Natural Food Holdings, Sioux Pharm, and Trans Ova Genetics. Mini tours of Dordt College were also given.
The Dordt College agriculture department uses this annual event to educate students about agriculture and biotechnology by showing them the wide range of careers that exist in those areas.
Guest speaker Holly Daniel, human resource coordinator for Farmers Cooperative in Farnhamville, Iowa, spoke over the noon hour, encouraging students to pursue careers in the agriculture industry.
High schools participating in the biotech ag tours included Akron-Westfield, Boyden Hull, Central Lyon, Clay Central-Everly, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, MOC Floyd Valley, Okoboji, and Sioux Center Community high schools.
Dordt College is one of only a handful of Christian colleges in North America to offer a four-year agriculture program. To learn more about the program, visit www.dordt.edu/agriculture.
