Dordt Softball Faces Flames Wednesday

GAMETIME… Dordt College travels to Omaha, Nebaska to face the College of Saint Mary Flames on Wednesday, March 27 starting at 3:00.  The doubleheader is a non-conference date.

SCOUTING REPORT… The Flames are 3-3 this season and haven’t played since a three day stretch when they faced Sterling, Friends and Tabor.  The College of Saint Mary swept Sterling and was swept by Friends before splitting with Tabor in the doubleheaders played in Kansas. 

The Flames are batting .290 as a team and have been outscored 63-43 and outhit 68-49.  The Omaha based sis led by Jamie Zimmerer with a .435 batting average with a team high 10 hits and three homeruns.  Shelbi Hatfield  leads the team with nine runs batted in and two doubles with nine hits.  Zimmerer is also the top arm for the Flames with a 2-1 record with an 8.67 earned run average.  Mariah Gibson has the other win in 19 2/3 innings of work and she has nine strikeouts.

DEFENDER NOTES… The Defenders are 2-13 this season and are batting .199 and have been outhit 133-73.  Dordt has wins over Bethel (Kansas) and Purdue North Central (Indiana). 

The Defenders are led by Ashley Van Kooten’s .289 batting average with 13 hits and two homeruns with 11 runs batted in.  Selena Rinehart has a .267 batting average to go with eight hits—all singles.  Shantelle Gritters and Ashton Beaird have batting averages of .250 and .233.  Beaird has a team high ten hits with four doubles and she has five runs batted in.  Brittany Kooiker, Haley Huisman and Bethany Dykstra all have two homeruns each.

Sidney Larsen has pitched 63 2/3 innings out of 94 1/3 innings so far this season and has a 5.51 earned run average while striking out 22 and walking 16.

THE SERIES… Dordt and the College of Saint Mary played four times last season with Dordt sweeping the double-dip in Omaha 7-6 and 1-0 and the twinbill in Orange City 6-1 and 10-7 on March 30.  The series is tied at 6-6.

NEXT UP… Dordt will face Concordia on Tuesday, April 2 and Mount Marty on Wednesday, April 3.  Both conference doubleheaders are on the road.  The Flames are scheduled to travel to Waldorf on Thursday, March 28 in conference play.
