Peter Kuipers' trumpet recital is rescheduled for Sunday, April 14
March 29, 2013
The community is invited to attend the trumpet recital of Dordt College senior Peter Kuipers, which has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. A public reception will follow.
Kuipers will perform Ewazen’s Sonata, Tull’s Second Profile, Balay’s Piece de Concours, Posthuma’s Gabriel Takes Flight, and Bolling’s Toot Suite.
“Of all the pieces, I am by far the most attached to the Sonata. Everything about this piece reminds me of home,” said Kuiper, who is from Platte, South Dakota. “I love the cascading lines of the piano accompaniment, the lyrical second movement, and the numerous off-beat entrances.”
Kuipers will premiere a composition written by Jonathan Posthuma, a 2012 Dordt College graduate and friend of Kuipers. The piece “pushes the limits of the trumpet player and accompanist to the extreme,” said Kuiper.
A K-12 music education major, Kuipers studies trumpet under the instruction of Dordt College Professor Kevin Linder.
