Dordt College volunteers help with Sioux Center cleanup

April 15, 2013

Sioux County was one of 10 Iowa counties declared a federal disaster area in the wake of an ice and snow storm last week. On Saturday, April 13, approximately 200 Dordt College students and employees helped with cleanup throughout Sioux Center, removing thousands of downed tree limbs in people’s yards.

“As a college, we are grateful to see God glorified through the selfless outpouring of our students to help others in need within the Sioux Center community,” said Bethany Schuttinga, Dordt College associate provost and vice president for student services.

The volunteers were split into work crews and sent throughout the city breaking apart fallen limbs, picking them up, and hauling them to the curb to be taken away by the city work crews.
