Defender Softball In Crete Saturday

GAMETIME… Dordt will travel to Doane on Saturday, April 20 starting at 3:00.  Results of the games can be found at  and at at the conclusion of play.

SCOUTING REPORT… The Tigers are 6-4 in the GPAC and 10-17 overall.  Doane bats .317 as a team with Nichole Diaz leading the way with a .431 average and a team high 44 hits with 12 doubles and 22 runs scored.  Brooke Sampson is batting .414 with 29 hits and seven homeruns to go with 27 runs batted in.  Shelby Mendlik is good for 24 runs batted in and Kelsey Huenink is batting .366.

Mendlik boasts a 4-1 pitching record with a 1.20 earned run average and she has 15 strikeouts all in just 11 2/3 innings of work.  Kylie Garrett and Huenink each have three wins and Huenink has 35 strikeouts. 

DEFENDER NOTES… Dordt is 6-25 this season with a 2-12 conference record. 

Ashton Beaird is batting .289 with 24 hits and 17 runs batted in and she has five homeruns.  Ashley Van Kooten is batting .270 with three homeruns and 14 runs batted in and Brittany Kooiker’s batting average is .238 with two homeruns and 13 runs batted in.  Haley Huisman has 13 runs batted in and has also slugged four homeruns.

Sidney Larsen has pitched 130 innings and is 5-13 with a 5.19 earned run average and she has struck out 63 batters.

THE SERIES… The two teams played last season on April 21 in Crete, Nebraska and Doane won both games by scores of 5-4 and 4-0 to take a 17-15 lead in the series.

NEXT UP… Dordt is scheduled to host Dakota Wesleyan on Tuesday, April 23.  Doane will play Morningside on April 27 in its next outing.
