ACHA Names Four Blades Academic All-Americans

Four members of the Dordt Blades hockey team have been named 2012-2013 American Collegiate Hockey Association D3 Academic All-Americans.  To be eligible for the award the players need to be a junior or senior and have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher.

Receiving the award for the Blades were Riley Braun, Jon Gesink, Eric Huitsing and Eric Walter.

Riley Braun, a junior netminder from Altona, Manitoba recorded every single minute in goal for the Blades this past season and recorded 746 saves in 21 starts.  Braun has played in a total of 58 games for the Blades over the last three seasons.  Braun is majoring in Business Administration: Finance.

Jon Gesink, a five year blueliner for Dordt College, has played in 93 games, netting 14 goals while adding 55 career assists.  Gesink, a senior from Centennial, Colorado is a Chemistry/Physical Science: Secondary Education major.

Junior forward Eric Huitsing has played in 60 games for the Blades over the past three seasons and has 33 career goals and 23 assists.  Huitsing is from Edmonton, Alberta and majors in Business Administration: Finance.

Eric Walter, a senior defenseman from Johnston, Iowa has skated in 80 games for the Blades, tallying eight goals and 29 assists while majoring in Engineering.
