Benavente To Join Defender Softball

(Thursday, July 18; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Rhea Benavente, a graduate of Bloomington High School (California) who most recently attended El Camino College, has announced her intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender softball program.

Benavente batted .413 last season for El Camino with 52 hits, three doubles, three triples, two homeruns and 23 runs batted in.  She stole 10 bases and scored 40 runs while earning second-team honors from the South Coast Conference.  She had a 90.8 fielding percentage at second base and was the team leader in runs scored for a squad that won 18 games in a row.

Benavente was a four-year varsity player at Bloomington High School and twice earned all-academic honors from the Sunkist League and was also accorded all-league accolades twice.

Rhea is the daughter of John and Marlene Beavente of Fontana, California.  She plans to study pre-veterinary at Dordt College.
