Defender Cross Country No. 7 In Poll

(Thursday, September 26; Sioux Center, Iowa)  The Dordt College women’s cross country team held steady at no. 7 in the second in-season NAIA Women’s Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 poll released Wednesday, September 25.

The Defenders took 521 points in the polling conducted by 23 coaches across the country.  The top eight teams in the poll remain unchanged with British Columbia the unanimous no. 1 in the voting.  Doane is no. 17 in the ranking released weekly by the NAIA.

Dordt was the top NAIA finisher at the Woody Greeno Invite this past weekend as they finished third at the meet in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Lauren Opp was the first runner across for the Defenders with a time of 23:06 for seventh place and a pack of three runners wasn’t far behind as Abby De Vries, Kayla Byl and Jordyn Visscher were 13th, 14th and 15th. De Vries ran a 23:21, Byl a 23:22 and Visscher a 23:24 on the 6,000 meter course.   Kelsey Lewis was 30th in 24:11 for Dordt’s final points.

Dordt will run in the Roy Griak Invitational at St. Paul, Minnesota on  Saturday, September 28.  After a week off the Defenders will run at the Pre-Nationals Meet in Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday, October 12.
