Dordt Soccer At Concordia Saturday

GAMETIME…  The Dordt Defenders travel to Seward, Nebraska to face Concordia  on Saturday, October 5.  The women’s game starts at 1:00 and the men’s game will get underway at 3:00.  Results will be posted on ; and when the game is complete.

SCOUTING REPORT… The Concordia Bulldog women are 1-1 in the GPAC and 5-4 overall with a win over Mount Marty and a loss to Morningside in conference play. The Bulldogs have a loss and a tie in their last two contests.  Before that they had back to back wins over Mount Marty and Grace University.

Concordia has outscored teams 22-14 this season and have outshot teams on goal 77-62.    Rachel Mussell has seven goals this season and Ashlie Sklenicka has scored three times.  Sarah Winningham leads the team with three assists.  Elyse Muhle has played 473 minutes in goal and has allowed nine goals and has 27 saves with a 1.71 goals allowed average.  Chrissy Lind has played 381 minutes in goal and has allowed five goals with a 1.18 goals allowed average.

The Concordia men are 2-0 in the GPAC and 6-4 overall.  Concordia has beaten Mount Marty and Morningside by a combined 10-1 score in GPAC play.  The Bulldogs have losses this season to Benedictine, Friends, Oklahoma City and Bethany.

Concordia has outscored teams 24-15 this season and have been outshot on goal by a slight 66-64 margin.  Nathan Douglas tops the Bulldogs with seven goals and five assists.  Chris DeFeyter scored five goals and Dean Stevens has knocked three in.  Brendan Buchanan has played 831 minutes in goal with 13 goals allowed and 50 saves and he has a 1.41 goals allowed average.

DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Dordt College women are 0-2 in GPAC play and 0-10 overall.

The Defenders have 30 shots on goal this season and have lost conference games to Midland and Dakota Wesleyan.  Nicole Postman has four goals and has ten shots on goal to lead the Defenders.  Katie Kortman has 783 minutes played in goal and has allowed 33 goals with 72 saves and has a 3.79 goals allowed average.

The Defender men are 2-7-1 overall and 0-2 in GPAC play with a loss to Midland and a tie with Dakota Wesleyan in league play.

Dordt has been outscored 24-16 this season and have been outshot on goal 88-46.  Eric Grootenboer and Brady Van Holland each have four goals to lead the Defenders and Mason Davis has three assists.  Jon Brinkerhoff has allowed 17 goals in 647 minutes for a 2.36 average and he has 43 saves.  Joey Rasnic has played 292 minutes in goal and has a 2.16 goals allowed average and he has made 21 saves this season.

THE SERIES… The Defender women lead the series 12-4 with Concordia winning last year’s game 3-2 in Sioux Center on September 22.  The Defenders scored goals in the 81st and 85th minutes to put the pressure on.  Kortman had two saves in goal while Mussell had two goals for the Bulldogs.  Dordt’s goals came from Merissa Le Duc and Heynen.

Dordt won a 2-0 decision in the men’s game to lift their series record to 20-6-1 with the Seward, Nebraska school.  Eric Grootenboer scored in the first minute of play and Scott Van Wylen was on the receiving end of a Brady Van Holland assist in the sixth minute to take a 2-0 lead that stood the rest of the game.  Brinkerhoff made five saves in goal to preserve the shutout.

LAST TIME… Concordia and the College of Saint Mary played to a 2-2 deadlock Wednesday night in Omaha, Nebraska.  Emily Fleming and Megan Brunssen each had goals for the Bulldogs as each team scored a goal in each half of the game.  Lind made seven saves in goal for Concordia while facing 21 shots.

The Dordt women were on the short end of a 3-1 loss to Dakota Wesleyan on Tuesday night.  Dordt tied the game with a Nichole Postman goal early in the second half but allowed two goals later in the game for the final decision.  Kortman had six saves in goal as Dordt was outshot on goal 9-4.

Concordia defeated York on Tuesday night by a 6-2 margin.  Six different players scored for Concordia and Buchanan split time with Mark Horsburgh in goal as both allowed a goal.  Buchanan made three saves in goal in the first half.

Dordt and Dakota Wesleyan played to a 1-1 double overtime tie.  Braden Graves scored a goal in the second half to force overtime and Jon Brinkerhoff had seven saves as Dordt was outshot on goal by a narrow 8-6 difference.  Each team had a shot on goal in the overtime sessions.

NEXT UP……Concordia will travel to Doane for midweek games in its next outing and will host Nebraska Wesleyan next Saturday.
