Dordt Volleyball Hosts Doane Saturday

WHERE AND WHEN… Dordt College will host Doane College on Saturday, October 5 with the junior varsity match starting at 3:30 and the varsity match at 5:00. The match can be heard on KDCR 88.5 FM and there will be a live video webstream available at www.dordt.edu/athletics . THE OPPONENT… Doane College is 3-3 in the GPAC and 9-9 overall and have won two of the last three matches they have played. The wins in that string are over Morningside by a 3-0 count and Mount Marty 3-2. Midland dropped the Tigers in their most recent match and the other losses in the GPAC have come to Hastings and Northwestern.
Doane is averaging 11.47 kills per set and have a .154 kill efficiency while also averaging 15.06 digs and 2.1 blocks per contest. Doane is also getting 2.23 points per set off of ace serves.
Ashley Axmann puts down 3.66 kills per set with a .170 kill efficiency while Abby Sorenson averages 2.35 kills per set. Emily Max and Ali Jansen are averaging 1.49 and 1.41 kills per outing. Rachel Wieser and Alex Winters put up 6.31 and 3.13 assists per set respectively. Wieser also has a 1.86 dig average . Karissa Blank gets to 4.53 digs per contest to lead the Tigers and she has 32 ace serves. Juli Els tops the team with 35 ace serves and she has a 1.78 digs per set average. Axmann is also good for 28 ace serves and Winters has 16 aces for a team that relies heavily on aggressive serving.
THE DEFENDERS… Dordt is 14-4 this season and 5-2 in league play. Dordt has won three matches in a row and also have an eight match winning streak to their credit this season.
The Defenders are averaging 12.9 kills per set this season and their kill efficiency is at .294. Chad Hanson’s squad is getting to 15.08 digs per contest and they record 2.04 blocks per set and their service aces average is 1.49.
Brooke Wolterstorff is averaging 3.17 kills per set with a .286 kill efficiency and Lindsey Floen’s average is 2.86 and she has a team high kill efficiency of .417. Jenna Horstman averages 2.62 kills and two other players, Meghan Krausman and Elizabeth Kiel, are averaging 1.91 and 1.49 kills per outing. Kayla Broekhuis has a dig average of 4.62 and she has 18 service aces this season. Kayla Gesink puts up nearly 10 assists per set and has a 1.09 kills per set average and she gets to 2.55 digs. Celaine Haan leads the team with 25 ace serves while Wolterstorff and Jocelyn Bousema each have 19 aces and the get to 2.55 and 1.7 digs per set respectively.
LAST ACTION… Doane lost to Midland 28-26, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20 in its most recent outing. The Tigers were done in partly by 27 attack errors and 15 service errors. Axmann had a team high 17 kills while Sorenson had 16. Winters led the team with 28 assists and Blank had 26 digs with two ace serves.
Dordt beat Buena Vista on Thursday night by a 25-12, 25-13, 22-25, 25-17. Brooke Wolterstorff led the team with 16 kills while Horstman, Krausman and Kiel each had nine kills. Kayla Gesink put up 40 assists and had 20 digs. Celaine Haan recorded six ace serves and Kayla Broekhuis got to 28 digs.
HISTORY… Dordt leads the series 22-6 and Dordt lost the meeting on September 29 last season 25-21, 20-25, 18-25, 15-25. Max had 15 kills and Blank 13 digs. Drodt was led by Danae Geels with 16 kills and Loy Sahr had 10. Gesink put up 39 assists and had 15 digs while Broekhuis had 14.
RANKINGS… Dordt is now no. 16 in the poll while three other GPAC members are in the poll that was released on Tuesday, October 1. Northwestern is no. 6; Midland is no. 7 and Hastings is no. 24.
WHERE WE GO FROM HERE… Doane will face Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday, October 9 in its next outing.
Dordt will host Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, October 9 starting at 6:00 with a junior varsity match and the varsity match will follow. The Defenders then have a full week off before traveling to Sioux City, Iowa to face the Morningside Mustangs.
