SISTER TO SISTER BREAST CANCER AWARENESS EVENT…The Dordt College volleyball program and Promise Community Health Center have joined forces to create awareness of breast cancer and its impact on northwest Iowa at the Dordt-Dakota Wesleyan volleyball match.

Planning for the event began in Spring 2013 as the coaching staff and the Dordt volleyball team became aware of the impact breast cancer has in northwest Iowa.  In 2011 the national incidence of breast cancer was 118.7 cases per 100,000 women and in Iowa the incidence was 120.1  Lyon County has a rate of 147.7, Plymouth County a rate of 145.7 and Sioux County 122.

Promise Community Health Center is in its second year of funding from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Siouxland Affiliate for the project Sister to Sister.  Sister to Sister has increased access to breast cancer screening, by providing affordable breast exams and mammograms to women in the community.

The Defender volleyball program encourages you to pray for  and remember those who have battled and are battling cancer and for those families affected by the loss of loved ones due to cancer.
