Soccer Returns Home To Face Briar Cliff

GAMETIME…  The Dordt Defenders host Briar Cliff on Wednesday, October 9.  The women’s game will start at 2:00 and the men will get underway at about 4:15. SCOUTING REPORT… The Briar Cliff women are 6-3-1 overall and 2-1 in GPAC play with wins over Northwestern and Doane and a loss to Hastings.  The Chargers have been involved in four one-goal games and are 2-2 in those games.  Briar Cliff is 3-1 in its last four games with the lone setback being the 3-2 loss to Hastings on September 28.

The Chargers have outscored teams 28-16 this season while getting outshot on goal 132-100.  Lindsey Hoag tops the team with seven  goals and Bridget Lyon has five.  Mckayla Wessling and Julie Redus each have three goals.  Redus leads the team with six assists.  Kalynn Sortino has played 1020 minutes in goal and has allowed 16 goals  and has a 1.45 goals allowed per-90 minutes played average.  Sortino has made 111 saves  this season.

Briar Cliff is 0-3 in the GPAC and 3-8 overall.  The Chargers have lost to Doane, Northwestern and Hastings and have been outscored 13-4 in those GPAC games.  Wins for the Chargers this season are over York, Waldorf and Presentation.

The Chargers have been outscored 30-12 and have been outshot on goal 126-78.  Pedro Fonseca and Josh Humm-Rhodes each have three goals scored this season.  Dan Snider has played 900 minutes in goal and has allowed 29 goals and has made 94 saves.  Snider has a 3.11 goals allowed per-90 minutes played.

DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Dordt women are 0-11 this season and 0-3 in the GPAC with losses to Midland, Dakota Wesleyan and Concordia. 

Dordt has 30 shots on goal this season and are led by Nicole Postman’s four goals.  Katie Kortman has played 873 minutes in goal and has allowed 36 goals for a 3.71 goals-per 90 minutes played average with 78 saves made.

The Defender men are 3-7-1 this season and 1-1-1 in the GPAC with a win over Concordia, a loss to Midland and a tie with Dakota Wesleyan. 

Dordt has been outscored 24-17 this season and have been outshot on goal 91-48.

Eric Grootenboer leads the team with five goals and an assist while Brady Van Holland has four goals and Derick Sackey three.  Van Holland is the team leader in assists with three.

Joey Rasnic and Jon Brinkerhoff have provided a goalkeeping tandem for the Defenders.  Brinkerhoff has played 648 minutes in goal with 17 goals allowed and has made 43 saves.  Rasnic has seven goals allowed in 382 minutes and has 24 saves.  Brinkerhoff has a 2.36 goals allowed per-90 minutes played average and Rasnic’s goals allowed average is 1.65.

THE SERIES… The Dordt women lead the series 16-3-1 with Briar Cliff taking last year’s meeting 2-0 behind a goal each by Redus and Schultz.  Sortino played 90 minutes in goal for the Chargers and she made two saves.  Emily Holz played in goal for Dordt and had 12 saves in the loss.

The Defender men lead the series 17-12-2 and won last year’s contest in Sioux City on October 16 by a 5-0 margin.  Five different players scored a goal for Dordt and Brinkerhoff made four saves for the shutout. Snider faced 10 shots and made five saves for Briar Cliff.

LAST TIME… The Charger women beat Presentation on Saturday, October 5 by a score of 9-1 as they scored five goals in the first half and the first six goals of the contest.  The Chargers had 21 shots on goal and got four goals from Lyon and two by Wessling.  Sortino made four saves in goal to preserve the win for Briar Cliff.

Dordt lost to Concordia on Saturday, October 5 by a score of 3-0 after allowing three goals in the first 31 mintues.  Kortman made six saves in goal for the Defenders in the game played at Seward, Nebraska.

The Briar Cliff men secured a 3-1 win over Presentation on Saturday as they scored two goals in the second half to break away from a 1-1 tie.  Pedro Fonseca scored twice for the Chargers and Luis Magana had a goal in the 75th minute to seal the win.  Snider played 90 minutes in goal and had five saves and one goal allowed. 

The Defender men beat Concordia on Saturday 1-0 with Eric Grootenboer’s goal in the 55th minute providing all the offense Dordt needed.  Rasnic played in goal and had three saves for the shutout.

NEXT UP…… Briar Cliff will host back to back contests with Mount Marty on Sunday, October 8 and Saturday, October 19.
The Defenders will travel to Morningside on Saturday, October 12 and will have a week off before hosting Hastings on Saturday, October 19.
