Dordt Pair Earn GPAC Volleyball Honors

(Wednesday, November 6; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Two Dordt College volleyball players have earned weekly honors from the Great Plains Athletic Conference for matches played October  28-November 3.  Kayla Gesink (Junior; Sioux Center, Iowa) and Kayla Broekhuis (Senior; Edgerton, Minnesota) claimed the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Setter of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week respectively.

Gesink put up 70 assists in two 3-0 wins for the Defenders and also recorded 2.8 digs per contest as the Defenders built their record to 21-5.  Broekhuis averaged 6.6 digs per outing in Dordt’s wins over Dakota Wesleyan and Doane.  Gesink is averaging 10.6 assists per set for the Defenders and has a 2.4 digs per outing average while Broekhuis is averaging a team high 5.1 digs per contest.

Dordt is currently no. 16 in the Tachikara-NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll and the Defenders conclude the regular season on Wednesday, November 6 when they travel to face Northwestern in Orange City.
