Vande Voort Headlines All-GPAC List For Defenders

(Tuesday, November 18; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Seth Vande Voort (Senior; Urbandale, Iowa) heads a list of ten Dordt College football players earning All-Great Plains Athletic Conference post-season honors in voting done by the conference coaches at the conclusion of the football season.

Vande Voort totaled 71 solo and 55 assisted tackles this season while making a sack and getting an interception.  Vande Voort leaves Dordt as its top all-time tackler with 209 solo stops and 196 assisted tackles with six sacks.  Vande Voort claims second-team honors for the second time and was a two-time honorable mention selection.

Nine other Dordt players earned honorable mention honors.

Micah Applegate (Senior; Arvada, Colorado) earns honorable mention honors for the second time after getting 17 solo and 19 assisted stops with four sacks in 2013.  He leaves Dordt with 36 solo and 42 assisted stops and he played in every game for the Defenders during his four years.

Heath Bonestroo (Sophomore; Hull, Iowa) punted 67 times this season and had a 38.3 yards per punt average with a long of 65.

Jon Gardner (Senior; Carrollton, Texas) earns honorable mention honors for the second time after getting 23 solo and 14 assisted stops with two sacks.  The defensive end had 67 solo and 63 assisted tackles during his career and 14 sacks.

Chris McDaniel (Senior; Carson, California) claims honorable mention accolades after making 23 tackles and nine assisted stops at cornerback.

Nathan Morehead (Senior; Sioux City, Iowa) played offensive line for the Defenders this season and started every game the last two seasons.

Camren Pitre (Junior; Carrollton, Texas) earns the honor for the first time after making 23 solo and six assisted stops with two interceptions.

Kyle Scholten (Senior; Inwood, Iowa) earns honorable mention for the second time and appeared in nearly 30 games for the Defenders while fighting injuries.  Scholten got the honors for his play on the offensive line.

Darryl Van Grouw (Senior; Meridian, Idaho) had 18 pass catches for 13.5 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Sam Verhulst (Senior; Milwaukee, Wisconsin) caught a team high 27 passes for a 15.0 yards per catch average and had three touchdown passes.
