Dordt College embarks on instrumental music tour
December 30, 2013
More than 30 Dordt College students will embark on a winter instrumental tour during the school’s winter break. The Jazz Band and Chamber Orchestra will travel through Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. The full tour schedule can be found at www.dordt.edu/music_itinerary.
Repertoire includes Beethoven’s Scherzo (from Symphony No. 4), Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and Holst’s Brook Green Suite, as well as jazz pieces including Stardust and Only You.
The group is led by 2012-13 visiting conductor Yurii Henríques who hails from New England and has taught elementary through university-level students at a variety of public and private institutions. Among his accomplishments, Henríques has served as an arranger and composer for the esteemed University of Massachusetts Jazz Ensemble I, conducted several award-winning ensembles at national festivals, and was part of the South Windsor High School music department that was honored as a National Grammy Signature School twice during his tenure.
Approximately 300 U.S. and international students participate in the Dordt College music program, which offers opportunities to perform in any of four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands. Music scholarships are available to qualified students. Learn more about music opportunities available at www.dordt.edu/music.
