Blades Travel To Arkansas For Two Games

The games…after almost a six week layoff, the Dordt Blades will jump back on the ice this week as they begin the final portion of their season. Dordt will travel to Springdale, Arkansas for a pair of games with the Razorbacks at 8:30 p.m. on January 17 and again at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18.  After those two games the Blades will host Creighton and Nebraska each twice to finish off their year.

The Opponent…the Razorbacks are 17-5 on the year with an unblemished 10-0 record at home.  Arkansas has 114 goals for with 50 against.

Ryan Machos is leading Arkansas with 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points.  Forest Mudgett has 26 points on 9 goals and 17 assists, while Martin Sundstedt and Johnny Stromp have 25 points each.  Marcel Toure paces the Razorbacks in goals scoring with 16, to go along with four assists for 20 points.

Arkansas has two netminders sharing the tending duties with Kevin Scheer posting a record of 9-4 with a goals against average of 2.45 and a .890 save percentage.  Mulgrew Spencer is 7-1 with a 1.99 GAA and a .900 save percentage.

The Blades…are 4-14 this season and 1-7 in the MACHA.  Nic Enerson and Eric Huitsing both have 11 points for the Blades with Enerson posting a team leading eight goals to go along with 3 assists while Huitsing has seven goals and four assists.

Riley Braun has spent 936 minutes between the pipes for the Blades and is 3-13 on the season with a 4.48 goals against average and a .892 save percentage.

History…the Blades and the Razorbacks will be clashing for the first time this weekend.

Last time out…the Blades split with Missouri State in a set of MACHA conference outings as Dordt picked up a 5-3 win on December 6 before falling to the Ice Bears by a score of 6-2 the following day.

Arkansas has not played since November 22 and 23 and, like the Blades, split their last two contests, winning the first and losing the second.  Arkansas had a 4-3 win over the University of Central Oklahoma on the 22nd before dropping a 5-2 contest on the 23rd.

Next up…the Blades will play Creighton on Friday, January 24 at 7:30 pm and again on Saturday, January 25 at 4:15 pm.  Both games will be played in the Vernon Arena in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Conference affiliation…the Dordt Blades have joined the Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA) which has schools in two separate divisions (Gold and Silver) and Dordt College will be a part of the Silver Division.  Western Conference schools include:  Iowa, Iowa State, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Missouri State (D3), Nebraska and Dordt.  The top two teams from the North, Central and West will make the playoffs, plus 2 wild card spots determined by winning percentage.
