Dordt Gains Jansen Commitment

(Friday, March 28; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Summer Jansen, a senior at Western Christian High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender volleyball and softball programs.

Jansen totaled 395 digs and 243 kills in 2013 as the Wolfpack finished as the runner-up at the Class 2A Iowa State Tournament.  She had 29 ace serves and was in on 36 blocks while earning second-team all-Lakes Conference honors and third-team honors from the Northwest Iowa Review.

Jansen will complete her high school softball career this summer.  She is a pitcher and first baseman and had a .452 batting average with 28 runs batted in, 19 runs scored, seven doubles, three homeruns and a .500 on base percentage.  She was a second team all-state selection in 2013 and claimed first-team honors from the Lakes Conference and Northwest Iowa Review.    She helped Western to a 19-8 record in 2013.

Summer is the daughter of Jim and Rachel Jansen of Sheldon, Iowa.  She plans to study nursing at Dordt College.

U.S. News & World Report,, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,400 students.
