Senior art show on display

April 15, 2014

Dordt College seniors Teddy Getenet, Nathan Morehead, and Andrew Steendam are presenting their senior art exhibit, with work on display in the Dordt College Campus Art Gallery through Wednesday, April 23. A reception will be held on Monday, April 21, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., a with gallery talk at 7:30.

“My artwork is a collection of designs I have created primarily for clients,” says Getenet. “For me, art is intended communication through one of the five senses. Design is a way of getting a message across in an effective way.”

Getenet is from Ethiopia, and he is majoring in art with an emphasis in graphic design.

“Whether the work is abstract, hyper-realistic, or somewhere in between, there is always a story being told through the work,” says Morehead. “The story can be found within the subject image, the emotion of color, or by the brush strokes used.”

Morehead is from Sioux City, Iowa, and is majoring in art with an emphasis in graphic design.

“Dordt is one of the few positive—and by far, the biggest—influences in my art. I had the chance to explore art in its many forms: sculpture, painting, drawing, video, and design,” says Steendam.

Steendam is from Dugald, Manitoba, Canada, and is majoring in art, with an emphasis in graphic design.
