Dordt College presents final instrumental ensemble concerts of the academic year

The Dordt College Department of Music invites the community to attend the final instrumental ensemble concerts of the academic year. The first will be held Friday, April 25, and the second on Friday, May 2. Both concerts will be held in the B.J. Haan Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

The April 25 concert will feature the Campus-Community Band, under the direction of Yurii Henriques, performing Fantasy on Yankee Doodle by Mark Williams, Chorale and Shaker Dance by John Zdechlik, and Down a Country Lane by Aaron Copland. The entertaining big band sounds of Dordt’s Jazz Band, conducted by Kevin Linder, will complete the program.

The May 2 concert will feature the Chamber Orchestra and Concert Band, both directed by Henriques.

The orchestra will perform “Rigaudon” from The Holberg Suite by Edvard Greig, “March” from The Love of Three Oranges by Sergei Prokofiev, and “Playful Pizzicato” and “Frolicsome Finale” from Simple Symphony by Benjamin Britten.

Concert Band will perform works including Raise of the Son by Rossano Galante, When Jesus Wept by William Schuman, Celebration Fanfare by Steven Reineke, and American Hymnsong Suite by Dwayne S. Milburn featuring “Wondrous Love, “Balm in Gilead,” “Come Thou Fount,” and “When We All Get to Heaven.”

Dordt College has approximately 300 students participating in the music program, with opportunities to perform in four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands. Music scholarships are available to qualified students.
