Three Relays Meet National Standard

(Monday, April 28; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Three Dordt College relays qualified for the NAIA National Track and Field Championships to be held in late May with their performances at the Drake Relays April 25-26.

The women’s 4 x 400 qualified with a time of 3:52.65, getting under the needed 3:55 and was made up of Siera Wilgenburg, Marisa Broersma, Robyn Blount and Katie Bonnema.  The time is the fastest by a GPAC team this spring and ranks 7th in the NAIA this season.

The women’s 4 x 800 of Kelsey Lewis, Kayla Byl, Justine Van Zee and Lillie Koerner ran a time of 9:08.02 to beat the needed time of 9:28.  The tie is the third fastest in the country this spring at the NAIA level.

The men’s 4 x 800 ran a 7:38.29 which was well under the needed time of 7:45  and ranks 5th in the country.  The foursome of Sam Wensink, Stephan McNamara, Tim Bierma and Trent Kischer ran the event on Friday at the event hosted in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Defenders will next run in the GPAC Championships held May 2 and 3 at Crete, Nebraska and is hosted by Doane College.
