Three Meet National Track And Field Standards

(Monday, May 5; Sioux Center, Iowa) Three Dordt College athletes reached automatic qualifying standards for the NAIA National Track and Field Championships with their performances at the GPAC Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3.

Kayla Byl (Sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa)   ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 11:24.74, just getting under the needed time of 11:25 to qualify for the national meet.

Christy Heidema (Senior; Ridgetown, Ontario) triple jumped 38-2.25 inches, just getting past the needed standard of 38-2 to qualify for the national meet.  Heidema qualified for the same event in the NAIA National Indoor Championships where she placed ninth.

Mycah Hulst (Sophomore; Byron Center, Michigan) cleared 5-6.5 in the high jump to finish second at the GPAC Championships and met the national qualification standard of 5-6.

The NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held Thursday, May 21 through Saturday, May 23 at Gulf Shores, Alabama.
