Nelson To Join Defender Football

(Tuesday, May 6; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Rickey Nelson, a senior at Lancaster High School (Texas), has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender football program.

Nelson has played a variety of positions on both the offensive and defensive line and has also served as the Lancaster long snapper.  Nelson started 26 games over a two year period and helped Lancaster to a 2012 record of 14-2 and a berth in the state finals.  He was a team captain in 2013 and earned second team all-district honors in 2012.  Nelson is listed 6-1, 235 pounds.

Rickey is the son of Marsha and Rickey Nelson of Lancaster, Texas.  He plans to study digital media at Dordt College.

Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. Dordt’s athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).

U.S. News & World Report,, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,400 students.
