ISRAEL IN DEPTH

Overview

Note: This trip is full and is closed.

You are invited to join friends of Dordt College on a unique tour of Israel.

September 6-21, 2012

Dordt Alumnus Ray Vander Laan ('73) will walk with us where Jesus walked, teaching as we go. You will learn how reading the text of the Bible in light of its cultural context can be deeply and personally challenging, and you can expect to gain an increased understanding of the unfolding of God’s plan to redeem his world.

Vander Laan’s tour will demonstrate what lies at the heart of a Dordt College education—that Scripture and creation reveal a sovereign God whose kingdom is creation. Christ has rescued creation from the curse of sin, reigns as king over all, and summons those he has redeemed to work to establish his kingdom everywhere.

On the tour, Vander Laan uses a rabbinic style of teaching in which talmidim (followers of the leader) seek to become like the Rabbi in knowledge, practice, and ethics. Vander Laan emphasizes the Jewish background of the biblical faith as he explores the stories of the Bible on location. He’ll lead hikes to places few people see, as well as to places where many tourists visit.

Expect to rise early and stay up late. Each day involves vigorous hiking, climbing, and exploring of ancient sites to see the Bible story in the cultural, historical, and geographical setting in which God placed it. We’ll meet friendly people, stay in five-star accommodations, and visit well-preserved sites.
