Fall Mainstage Production: Godspell with music/lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by John-Michael Tebelak

Directed by Teresa TerHaar

Production Dates and Location: October 15-17, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.; October 22 and 24 at 7:30 p.m.; and October 24 at 2 p.m.

TePaske Theatre, Sioux Center High School

With classic songs like, “Day by Day” and “Prepare Ye the Way,” the 70s musical Godspell is reimagined for the 21st century and takes the stage during Defender Days 2015. Based on the Gospel of Matthew, in this musical the story of Jesus and his disciples comes to life in powerful ways. Through song and dance, laughter and tears, the theatre arts department invites you to experience Jesus life in ways you might never have imagined. 

 

Spring Mainstage Production:  Lazzi Moliere adapted by Josiah Wallace

Directed by Josiah Wallace

Production Dates and Location: February 24-27, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. and February 27 at 2 p.m.

Lazzi: The original Italian Renaissance term for “a comic bit of action.” 

Moliere: The greatest French comic playwright of all time.  

Milking the stock character types and plot scenarios of the Italian Commedia del’Arte, Moliere found unprecedented popularity as a playwright and actor in 17th century France. Lazzi Moliere takes three of his short plays, blatantly mines their Commedia roots to create a piece of hilarity for everyone to enjoy. 

 

Spring Studio Production: Fools by Neil Simon

Leon Tolchinsky is ecstatic. He's landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. When he arrives he finds people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and people milking upside down to get more cream. The town has been cursed with Chronic Stupidity for 200 years and Leon's job is to break the curse. No one tells him that if he stays more than 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he, too, becomes Stupid. But, he has fallen in love with a girl so Stupid that she has only recently learned how to sit down.
