Coach Chad Hanson

Coaching Background

Chad Hanson was named the Dordt women’s volleyball coach in December, 2010. In April of 2015 it was announced that Hanson was selected to lead the men’s volleyball program at Dordt in its transition from a successful club team to a varsity sport. Prior to his time with the Defenders Hanson was an assistant coach at the University of Georgia from 2008 to 2010. In November of 2010 he was named interim head coach of the program, guiding them to a 4-3 record in the final weeks of the season. Prior to his time in Georgia, Hanson served in a similar role at the University of Iowa. He has also made coaching stops at the University of Idaho, Washington State, and Colton High School (Washington).

Coaching Philosophy

Scripture calls us to love God and love our neighbor. We strive to sharpen each other through the sport of volleyball in those two areas. This is done through selflessness and humble service in a volleyball community that encourages and exhorts one another toward excellence. We focus on four areas of growth for our athletes:

At Dordt

In his time at Dordt, Hanson has a career record of 81-52.

His 2013 squad qualified for the Division II NAIA National Tournament, finishing 11th. That same team also featured NAIA Freshman of the Year, Brooke Wolterstorff. Under his guidance, the Defenders have had three NAIA All-American players, three GPAC Freshmen of the Year, and beaten a number of top ranked teams.

Hanson played collegiately for two seasons at the University of California-Irvine before finishing his career at Washington State with the club team. His club team finished as the Bronze medalists at the NIRSA National Division I Championships.
