THE DORDT COLLEGE CAMPUS
Ribbens Academic Complex
A $5.5 million addition and renovation of the Douglas and Henrietta (Miedema) Ribbens Academic Complex was completed in 2009.
It is home to many of the academic program facilities, including a 220-seat lecture hall, classrooms equipped with interactive technology, the New World Theatre and theatre arts shop, and computer labs.
Teacher education classrooms have been equipped with a state-of-the-art (and newly emerging) educational technology in a smart technology classroom, a science methods classroom, and three other model classrooms. A faculty suite provides space for offices as well as informal learning areas for professors and students to discuss teaching strategies.
Digital media and graphic design computer labs provide workstations equipped with the latest Avid movie production software and network servers for growing graphic design, web design, animation, and digital media classes. A soft-seating area provides space for round-table team project discussion, and a project critique area provides display space.
Art facilities include areas for sculpting, painting, and print-making, as well as a newly remodeled art gallery and a kiln room. The art department has 13,000 square feet of centralized studio, photography, digital media, gallery, and office space, and features large studio areas with skylights, extensive built in cabinetry, vented hood areas, and dust removal systems to improve the efficiency, safety, and comfort of students learning the latest artistic concepts.
The academic complex also accommodates the office of graduate education and the copy center.
