Dordt receives first grant for Economic Education

August 13, 2012

In July, Dordt College became a nationally certified Economic Education Center. This month the college received their first grant for $3,000. The funds will enable four area K-12 teachers to attend the 3-day Council for Economic Education (CEE) Annual Conference in Kansas City on October 4 to 6. The college is currently accepting applications from local teachers wishing to attend the conference.

“This grant allows us to provide a great opportunity for teachers to learn how to incorporate various aspects of economics and personal finance into their curriculum,” said Art Attema, Dordt College business professor and co-director of Dordt’s Center. Attema, along with three other representatives from the Center will also attend the conference.

The CEE conference will include presentations, workshops, and events of a wide variety to enable educators to raise the levels of economic and financial literacy in their own classrooms. The latest in curriculum development, instructional materials, teaching strategies, and new programs and best practices will also be shared. They can participate in professional development workshops and sessions for K-12 teachers and hear outstanding speakers on current economic and financial topics.

More information about the conference can be found here. Any interested teachers can contact Erica Vonk at or at 712-722-6341, and she will provide them with a short conference application.
