Peter Kuipers presents compositions recital at Dordt College

November 19, 2012

The community is invited to attend the composition recital of Dordt College senior Peter Kuipers on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. A reception will follow.

Kuipers, from Platte, South Dakota, is a K-12 music education major. He will be performing original compositions, as well as a variety of other pieces from various composers.

Kuipers is eager to have others hear his music. “The melodies, harmonies, and rhythms I labor over don't really mean anything until they are played, and part of playing is having a listener,” said Kuipers. “I'm excited to hear the listener's responses because almost all of the music I wrote is meant to be accessible to the listener. They should feel welcomed into what I've created and catch a glimpse at the stories behind the music.”

In addition to Kuipers, the recital will feature 16 Dordt College students and faculty contributing on trumpet, trombone, horn, tuba, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, piano, organ, and voice.

Participants include Maria Bouwkamp (Pella, Iowa), Pam De Haan—vocal instructor (Alton, Iowa), Karina Fast (Bingham Lake, Minnesota), Stephanie Fynaardt (Pella, Iowa), Christina Harbaugh (Edgewood, Iowa), Ashley Huisman (Orange City, Iowa) Stacie Kammerer (Blue Grass, Iowa), Mia Kornelis (Sioux Center, Iowa), Nicole Low (Orange City, Iowa), Janna Mulder (Lynden, Washington), Ivory Niewenhuis (Corsica, South Dakota), Jinny Seo (Gwang-ju, South Korea), Anna Slegers (Orange City, Iowa), Jason Stuhrenberg (Clare Iowa), Emil Talen (Sioux Center, Iowa), Devin Veenstra (Pella, Iowa), and Anna Visser (Ingersoll, Ontario).
