Women's Basketball Faces Clarke December 29

GAMETIME… Dordt College will face Clarke on Saturday, December 29 at 2:00 at the Bultman Center in Orange City, Iowa in a game hosted by Northwestern College.  The game will be broadcast on KDCR 88.5 FM and at kdcr.dordt.edu.  Results will be available at https://twitter.com/dcathletics  and at www.dordt.edu/athletics when complete.

SCOUTING REPORT… Clarke is located in Dubuque, Iowa and is a member of the Midwest Collegiate Conference.    The Crusaders are currently 3-8 overall and haven’t opened conference play.  The Crusaders have wins over Graceland (78-69), Calumet (66-52) and San Diego Christian (70-64)  Clarke has won two of its last three outings after starting the season 1-7. 

Clarke is averaging 62.2 points per game and allow 66.8 points per outing while getting outrebounded 37.3-34.8.  The Crusaders limit teams to 41.5 percent shooting from the floor and are making 40.5 percent of the field goals they attempt.  Clarke has struggled with turnovers with over 20 per game on average while forcing 18 per game. 

Jenna Kotas and Anna Hahn lead the team with 13.1 and 12.3 points per game on average.  Hahn takes down a team high 8.5 rebounds per game and is converting 58.1 percent of her field goals and 88.6 percent of the free throws she has taken (31-35).  Breland Prochaska is scoring 9.1 points per game and dishes out just over three assists per game while Amanda Hamilton leads the team in assists with 4.5 assists per game to go with an 8.9 points per game scoring average. 

DEFENDER NOTES… Dordt College is 8-8 this season and 4-4 in GPAC games.  Dordt has won two games in a row twice this season and started the season with three losses.  The Defenders have lost five games by eight points or less and have outscored teams 68.6-58.1 this year.  The Defenders also boast a 39.2-36.9 rebounding edge and they have made 40.4 percent of the field goals they try while limiting opponents to 36.7 percent shooting.  Dordt commits slightly less than 20 turnovers per game while forcing teams into 22 turnovers per contest.

Kara Van Dyke is the leading scorer with a 13.2 points per game average to go with 7.7 rebounds and she is making 50 percent of her field goals and 46 percent of her three-point attempts.  Kayla Broekhuis has her scoring average at 11.2 points per game with 3.8 rebounds per outing.  Brianna Spronk is scoring 11.0 points per game with 5.6 rebounds and she is good for 2.3 assists per outing.  Elise Maresh is averaging just under double figures per game with a 9.6 average and she is taking down 5.6 rebounds.  Jasmin Schelhaas is averaging 6.9 points per game and ranks second on the team in made three-point baskets with 22 to Broekhuis’s 26.

NEXT… The Crusaders resume play on January 3 at Viterbo in LaCrosse, Wisconsin as they open conference play.

Dordt returns to GPAC play on Wednesday, January 2 at Hastings and will host Concordia on Saturday, January 5 at 2:00.

LAST TIME… Clarke faced San Diego Christian on Wednesday night, December 19 and won a 70-64 decision after trailing 35-30 at halftime.  The Crusaders made 46.9 percent of the field goals they tried while allowing 13-35 shooting by their opponent in the second half.  Hahn had 19 points and eight rebounds with Hamilton scoring 15 with five assists and Prochaska had 12 points in the win.

Dordt College earned a 91-74 victory over Briar Cliff on Saturday, December 15 in Sioux Center.  Dordt led 44-33 and made 57.7 percent of the field goals it tried while outrebounding the Chargers 38-28.  Dordt committed 21 turnovers against the pressure put on by Briar Cliff but forced 16 turnovers as well.  Van Dyke led five players in double figures with 19 while Elise Maresh tossed in 16 and  Danelle Boone came off the bench to score 15.  Jasmin Schelhaas was good for 12 points and Brianna Spronk added 10.

SERIES…This is the first meeting between these two teams.

NUMBERS… Brianna Spronk has 860 career points and ranks 18th all-time in Dordt women’s basketball behind Lindsey Van Wyk’s 866.  Spronk also has 556 rebounds and ranks 12th behind Rachel Van Beek with 617. Kara Van Dyke has 721 career points and is 27th all-time behind Jill Haan’s 737 and she has 463 rebounds which is 18th behind Katie Bleeker’s 473.
