Warners, Wedel Receive Academic Honor

Dordt College women’s soccer players, Meghan Warners and Elise Wedel both received honorable mention on the 2012 NSCAA Scholar All-North/Central Region Team.

Meghan Warners is a senior HHP: Exercise Science major from Hudsonville, Michigan with a 3.61 grade point average.  Warners played center back for the Defenders and earned GPAC first team honors in 2011 and was named to the second team in 2012 and 2010.  Warners started and played in 76 games for Dordt and tallied 2 goals for the Defenders this past season.  Warners is also a two time NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

Elise Wedel is a senior Elementary Education major from Buhler, Kansas with a 3.96 grade point average.  Wedel earned GPAC honorable mention honors in 2009 and 2011.  Wedel started and played midfield in 70 games in her career as a Dordt Defender and started 11 matches in 2012 before her career came to a close with a season ending injury.  Wedel has twice been named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete and finished with 8 career goals and 7 assists.

To be nominated for the all-region scholar award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member; be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution; be in his or her second year at the current school if he or she is a transfer student; and submit an official copy of a certified transcript.
