Dordt Lacrosse Opens Season Friday

The Dordt College lacrosse team will begin its 2013 campaign this weekend in Lincoln, NE when they take on the University of Nebraska and Kansas State University in a doubleheader.
This will be the first contest of the 2013 season for both Dordt College and Nebraska. Kansas State has played one game already--a 28-3 loss to Missouri State last weekend.
The Cornhuskers enter the 2013 season after going 4-12 last year, finishing last in the Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference West division. Mason Adams returns as the Cornhuskers top scorer, tallying 16 goals and two assists from a year ago. Phil Ehrman put in 10 goals and John Walsh scored nine of his own last season, respectively. Jordyn Jagels registered a .394 save percentage last year from between the pipes.
Kansas State is 0-1 so far in the 2013 season after finishing the 2012 season with a record of 1-7 with its lone win coming against Cornell. The Wildcat’s list a young roster made up of seven freshmen, four sophomores and one junior. Adam Rosendahl returns at attack for the Wildcats after registering three goals last year for his team. Kansas State will start a freshman in net.
Dordt College couldn’t overcome a trying schedule in 2012 going 0-7 on the year and missing the postseason for the second straight year after making the playoffs every year since its inaugural season in 2000.
The 2013 Sower’s roster consists of four seniors, four sophomores and seven freshmen.
On offense, senior Mark Opp, junior Alex Soundy, sophomore Nate Weigel and sophomore Drew Johnson all expect to make big contributions from the attack spot. Opp led the Sowers in goals last year and Weigel turned in an impressive fall season which he will look to build upon.
The defense features three returning starters in senior goalie Jordan Yntema, crease defender junior Jordan Shaffer and right side defenseman, senior Jordan Harmelink. Junior Dirk Oudman will round out the starting defense on the left side. Shaffer and Harmelink were one and two in groundball pickups while Yntema tallied a .507 save percentage last year.
