Coaching Transition For Blades

March 28, 2013

Dordt College Athletic Director, Glenn Bouma, has announced that John Langeraap has been named the new Head Coach of the Dordt College Blades following the recent resignation from that position by Bill Elgersma.

Elgersma served as the Blades head coach for the last four seasons, taking over the reins in 2009-2010 after serving for one year as an assistant coach. In his first season at the helm, Elgersma helped the Blades to their third straight American Collegiate Hockey Association postseason tournament berth.

Langeraap has served the last four years as the assistant coach for the Blades and he has been involved with hockey for over 40 years.  Langeraap’s passion for the game of hockey has continued to develop since he began playing youth hockey in Dunnville, Ontario.  He was involved with the Sioux Center Hockey Association since its inception in 2003 and has served as the association’s board president while also coaching at multiple levels in the SCHA prior to becoming an assistant for the Dordt Blades.

Dordt College, under Langeraap, will enter the 2013-2014 season as a full member of the Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association.

Langeraap will assume the role of Head Coach immediately while Elgersma will continue with the Blades program, serving as their Faculty Representative.

“We are very thankful for the leadership and professionalism that Elgersma has brought to the Blades hockey program over the past four seasons and are very grateful that he will continue to help guide the program through this transition period,” said Bouma.  “Additionally, we are excited to have Coach Langeraap move in to this new role and we are confident that the program will continue to thrive and provide an environment where young men can mature and develop as Christian student-athletes.”
