Dordt Baseball On Road For Two Doubleheaders

GAMETIME… Dordt is scheduled to go to  Concordia on Saturday and Nebraska Wesleyan on Monday for GPAC baseball doubleheader action.  Both twinbills are scheduled to start at 1:00.  Results of the games can be found at www.dordt.edu/athletics when complete and also at https://twitter.com/dcathletics.

SCOUTING REPORT… Concordia is 10-16 overall and stand 3-5 in the league with wins over Briar Cliff, Hastings and Nebraska Wesleyan in league play.  The Bulldogs are 2-6 in their last eight games and were swept by Dakota Wesleyan in their most recent outing.

The Bulldogs bat .244 as a team and opponents are batting .290 against them and have outscored them 143-102. The Bulldogs also have a team earned run average of 5.19 and have struck out 103 batters as a staff and have issued 60 walks.

Luke Parish-Ward has a 4-3 record in seven appearances and 35 innings of work with a 4.63 earned run average.  He leads the team with 22 strikeouts and has issued 11 walks.  Jeremiah Luber has a Luber have a and 4.50 earned run average and is 2-3 in 34 innings pitched. Kyle Godfrey is 0-4 with a 7.52 earned run average.

Tyler Harris tops the team with a .354 batting average and has 23 hits.  Camaren Gause is batting .350 with 28 hits and nine runs batted in.  Zack Gulley has 24 hits and seven doubles—second on the team to Gause’s nine doubles.  Ray Finley has a team high 16 runs batted in and Daniel Wilkerson has 15 runs batted in.  Kyle Ivanoff has nine stolen bases and Gause seven.  The Bulldogs have 35 steals in 26 games.

Nebraska Wesleyan is 10-10 overall and 5-3 in the league.  The Prairie Wolves have split with Dakota Wesleyan and Briar Cliff in their most recent outings and are 5-3 in their last eight outings. 

The Prairie Wolves are batting .304 this season while opponents are batting .305.  Wesleyan’s pitching staff has an earned run average of 5.45 and Wesleyan has outscored teams 104-100.

Nick Dolson is batting .500 but has played in just 12 games and has 10 hits.  Alex Heideman has a team high 26 hits with a .426 batting average and has 11 doubles with 25 runs batted in with four homeruns and he has stolen seven bases.  Pete Sitorius has a .329 batting average and 23 hits.

Justin Van Dyke is 3-1 on the mound with a 4.58 earned run average and has started four games.  Ryan Dolezal is 1-4 with a 5.72 earned run average and Matt Schommer and Sam Busboom each have 2-2 records.  Dolezal has a team high 18 strikeouts in 28 innings of work.

DEFENDER NOTES… The Defenders are 4-13 overall and 2-6 in the GPAC with wins over Morningside and Hastings to their credit.  In league play the Defenders have suffered three one-run losses and two more by two runs. 

Dordt is batting .212 this season and the Defenders have a 5.31 earned run average as a staff.

Lucas Carls is 1-0 in four starts in 23 innings pitched and has a 3.13 earned run average with 17 strikeouts.  Ben Van Kekerix is 2-2 in 23 innings and has a 4.70 earned run average with 21 strikeouts.  Mark Nyhoff and Jake Slings have thrown 21 2/3 innings and 19 innings respectively and Josh Van Kekerix is 1-1 seven appearances.

Nick Serrato has a .269 batting average with 14 hits and Nathan Fraley is batting .268 with a team high 15 hits and seven runs batted in and two homeruns.  Aaron Parks also has seven runs batted in and 12 hits in 17 games played.

THE SERIES… Dordt trails the series with Nebraska Wesleyan 17-6 and lost the doubleheader in Sioux Center last year by scores of 16-8 and 13-6.

Concordia tops the series with Dordt 24-8 with the two teams splitting last season.  Dordt won the opener 1-0 behind a 14 strikeout performance by Lucas Carls and Concordia won the nightcap 8-1.

NEXT UP… Concordia is scheduled to face Mount Marty on Sunday, April 14 at 1:00.  Nebraska Wesleyan will host Northwestern on April 13 in its next outing.  Dordt will face Mount Marty at home on April 16 in a non-conference doubleheader.
