Men's GPAC Golf Thursday

Meet… Dordt will golf in GPAC Men's #1 at Green Valley in Sioux City, Iowa on Thursday, September 19.

Participants… All 11 Great Plains Athletic Conference members offer men’s golf and will send teams to the first of four rounds in GPAC competition.

Last Time Out… The Dordt College Defender golf program sent two teams to the Doane College Invite at Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln, Nebraska. One unit finished ninth and other eleventh in the 13 team field.

Trey Hugen and Rees Beaver shot an 83 and 86 respectively and finished 18th and 29th respectively. Zach Kooiker and Matt Moen each shot an 87 on the par-71, 7,107 yard course.

One Dordt team shot a 349 and the other had a 358. Just 16 strokes separated the ninth place team from fifth place.

Doane had the top two individual finishers with Jonas Christensen and Caleb Tretheway going for 74 and 76. The Tigers also had the fourth place finisher to take the team title by 12 strokes.

Last Time On This Course… Dordt finished sixth at GPAC #2 at Green Valley Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa on Wednesday, October 10, 2012.

The Defenders shot a 313 as a team and were part of a four team group that was separated by just two shots. Midland and Dakota Wesleyan each shot 312s and Doane had a 314. Northwestern had the low score of a 292 and Morningside had a 296.

Dordt was led by Madison Moss and Brett Rozenboom with a pair of 77s and Jon Holwerda had a 78. Sam Vos and Derek Fox each shot an 81 on a day when four players shot par of 72. Kyle Stanek and Michael Dykema, both from Northwestern, shared medalist honors with Nathan Zimmerman (Morningside) and Rory Doll (Nebraska Wesleyan) also shooting even par on the 6,998 yard set up.

GPAC Qualifier History… Northwestern won the 2011-2012 four round championship with 1155 and Morningside was second at 1195. Dordt's 1246 was good for seventh place with 12 strokes separating the fourth through seventh place teams. Madison Moss had a four round total of 312 and Derek Fox a 313 for 19th and 21st respectively. Northwestern's Neil Malenke was the individual champion with a 283, winning the title by four strokes.

The Lineup… Dordt’s five for the event will be Connor Rothert (75.7 average through three rounds); Madison Moss (75.0 average through three rounds); Nate Middel (77.0 average through three rounds); Derek Fox (78.7 average through three rounds) and Jon Holwerda (80.3 average through three rounds).  The top four scores count towards the final score.

After This… Dordt’s next action is scheduled for September 27 and 28 at the Palace City Classic in Mitchell, South Dakota.
