GPAC Men's Golf Monday

Meet… GPAC Qualifier #2 is Monday, October 14 at Firethorn Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Participants… All 11 GPAC members field men’s teams in the four round event that spans the entire season with two rounds in the fall and two in the spring.
Last Time Out… The Dordt College Defender men's golf team finished fifth at the Morningside Invite on Tuesday, October 8 at Whispering Creek Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Defenders shot a 344 in windy and warm conditions. Northwestern won the event with a 298 and Morningside was second with a 316.
Dordt was led by Micah Roos's 83 for 21st place and Madison Moss had an 84. Other scores recorded for the Defenders were Nathan Middel's 88 and Derek Fox had an 89.
Northwestern's Ryan Kiewit shot a 69 and Neil Malenke a 73 for medalist and runner-up medalist honors.
Whispering Creek was set up for par-71, 6,771 yards.
Last Time On This Course… The Dordt College Defender golf team shot a 342 in round three of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Qualifier at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 12, 2010. The total was 10th for the day and was six shots off of seventh place on a day when teams fought gusty winds through out.
The highlight of the day for the Defenders came from Jordan Janz's round of 73 which was good for a tie for second for the round and moved him up the overall leader board to seventh with a three round total of 234. Northwestern's Luke Vermeer carded a 71 and is the individual leader heading into the final round with a 220, good for a six shot cushion over his nearest competitor.
Dordt's lineup took an 81 from Ryan Kamp; a 91 from Mike Behnke and a 97 from Tyler Lyon.
GPAC Qualifier History… The Dordt College Defender men's golf team shot a 317 in GPAC #1 on Thursday, September 19 at Green Valley Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Defenders finished ninth on a day where tenth place and fifth place were separated by just ten strokes. Briar Cliff was just in front of the Defenders with a 316 and Dakota Wesleyan shot a 312 for seventh place.
Madison Moss had a 76 on the par 72, 7,061 yard course, and is in 15th after the first round. Connor Rothert shot a 78 and is in 24th place. Jon Holwerda had an 81 while Derek Fox and Nathan Middel scored 82s on a day where the medalists, Renen Sahr (Midland) and Jonas Christensen (Doane), shot a pair of 69s.
Midland had a 299 for first place, narrowly sliding by Northwestern and Nebraska Wesleyan as each team carded a 301.
Dordt will next play in the Palace City Classic on September 27 and 28 in Mitchell, South Dakota and GPAC #2 is scheduled for Firethorn Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 14.

The Lineup… Dordt’s five man team for the round will consist of Madison Moss, Connor Rothert, Nathan Middel, Jon Holwerda and Trey Hugen. Moss has a 76.3 average in seven rounds played while Rothert’s average is 78.1. Middel has worked his average below 80 at 79.1 and Jon Holwerda has an 80.0 average in five rounds played. Hugen’s average is 80.9. All but Holwerda have played in seven rounds this fall.
After This… This event will conclude the fall portion of the 2013-14 season. Play will resume in April.
