Defender Soccer Hosts Northwestern Tuesday

GAMETIME…  The Dordt Defenders host Northwestern on Tuesday, October 22.  The women’s game will start at 2:00 and the men will get underway at about 4:15.  Audio play by play of the games can be heard at www.dordt.edu/athletics. SCOUTING REPORT… The Northwestern women are 4-2-1 in the conference and 7-6-2 overall with losses in the league to Midland and Briar Cliff and their tie was a scoreless battle with Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln on October 5.  The Raiders are 4-0-1 in their last four games and are riding a three game winning streak with wins over Mount Marty, Dakota Wesleyan and Concordia, who they beat by a combined 7-0 score.

The Raiders have outscored teams 20-17 this season and have been outshot on goal 123-104.  Alisaa Chrstoffer has four goals scored and Jahdai dunk has three goals and Alyssa Duren has three as well.  Jo Jensen and Tyler Farr each have three assists to lead the team and Ariel Watts  has played all 1,388 available minutes in goal and has allowed 17 goals for a 1.1 goals allowed per-90 minutes played average.

The Northwestern men are 5-1-1 in the league and 9-5-1 overall.  The Raiders are on a four game winning streak and have outscored Nebraska Wesleyan, Mount Marty, Dakota Wesleyan and Concordia 15-3 in that stretch.  Northwestern is 8-1-1 since starting the season 1-4.

The Raiders are outscoring teams 39-23 and have outshot teams 137-77 on goal.  Koray Karakas has scored eight goals this season and Ryan Johnson has seven while Gabriel Goncalves leads the team with eight assists and has six goals.  Aaron Bosch has played 1,389 minutes in goal and has made 52 saves and allowed 23 goals for a 1.49 goals per-90 minutes played average.

DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Defender women are 0-6 in the GPAC and 0-14 overall.

Nicole Postman has scored four goals for the Defenders and Katie Kortman has played 1,143 minutes in goal and has made 106 saves and allowed 49 goals.  The Defenders have 34 shots on goal and 55 total shots this season.

The Defender men are 1-4-1 in the GPAC and 3-10-1 overall.  Dordt has a conference win over Concordia and has played to goal losses with four other teams including nationally ranked Hastings.  Four of Dordt’s last five games have been decided by one goal or has been a tie, the other game was a 3-1 loss to Morningside.

Dordt has been outscored 29-18 this season and has been outshot on goal 103-60.  Eric Grootenboer and Brady Van Holland each have five goals this season and Derick Sackey has three goals.  Van Holland is also the team  leader in assists with three.  Jon Brinkerhoff has played 827 minutes in goal and has a 2.07 goals allowed per-90 minutes played average and has 49 saves.  Joey Rasnic has played 472 minutes in goal and has allowed 10 goals for a 1.91 average and has made 25 saves.

THE SERIES… The Defender women lead the series 19-2 and the Defender men have won 25 out of 33 games in the series with Northwestern.  Northwestern swept the two games last season with a pair of 1-0 wins in Orange City on September 26.  The Northwestern women outshot Defenders on goal 12-6 while the Northwestern men had an 8-6 shots on goal advantage in that contest.

LAST TIME… The Northwestern women beat Concordia on October 19 with a goal by Jensen less than a minute into the game and Christoffer added a goal in the 24th minute.  Watts made six saves in goal to preserve the shutout.  Northwestern was outshot on goal 6-5.

The Dordt women lost a 7-2 decision with Hastings on Tuesday with Megan Knapper and Ashley Bloemhof recording the goals for Dordt.  Kortman had 14 saves in goal for the Defenders.

The Northwestern men beat Concordi 2-0 in Seward, Nebraska on October 19.  Wesley Lockwood scored in the 17th minute and Travis Sytsma in the 78th minute while Bosch was making eight saves to preserve the shutout.  Northwestern outshot Concordia 9-8 in the win.

The Dordt men lost a 1-0 decision to Hastings on Saturday, surrendering a goal in the second half.  Dordt was outshot on goal 5-2 with Brinkerhoff making four saves in goal for Dordt.

NEXT UP…… Northwestern will face Hastings on Saturday, October 26  before concluding the season with Morningside on October 30.
