October 30, 2013

(Wednesday, October 30; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Cassidy Vredevoogd, a senior at South Christian High School (Michigan), has announced her intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender basketball program.

Vredevoogd earned all-state and all-conference honorable mention as a junior after averaging 10.9 points per game with 5.7 rebounds and she converted 52 percent of her field goal attempts.  She also blocked 3.68 shots per game and was an honorable mention selection for the Grand Rapids Area Dream Team.

A multi-sport standout, Vredevoogd helped her team to a state semifinal berth in basketball and a state title in soccer where she was also an all-district performer.

“We look for great things from Cassidy during her years at Dordt.  She is an elite athlete with great basketball skills who can defend multiple positions at a high level and will have an opportunity to contribute right away.  We are thrilled she picked Dordt College,” said Dordt College coach Craig Stiemsma.

Cassidy is the daughter of Chad and Tammy Vredevoogd of Caledonia, Michigan.  She plans to study nursing at Dordt College.
