Dordt Men's Cross Country Takes Votes In Final Poll

November 11, 2013

(Monday, November 11; Sioux Center, Iowa)  The Dordt College men’s cross country team fell into the receiving votes category of the final regular-season NAIA Men’s Cross Country Coaches’ Poll released late Sunday, November 10.

The Defenders took 58 points in the balloting after finishing fourth at the GPAC Championship race on Saturday, November 9 in Seward, Nebraska.  The Defenders fell out of the no. 23 spot where they were for the last poll.

The qualifiers for the NAIA National Championship Meet will be announced late Monday, November 11.  It appears unlikely the Defenders will qualify as a team through the at-large berth process but two runners, Nick Vander Kooi and Nathan Jackson appeared poised to earn berths as individuals.  Vander Kooi is assured of a spot after finishing fourth at the GPAC Championship with a time of 26:38 on the 8,000 meter course.  Nathan Jackson ran a 27:04 and finished 14th and will likely earn a spot if the Concordia men qualify with an at-large berth.

The top five runners at the GPAC Championship meet not on a qualifying team earn individual berths.  Nebraska Wesleyan and its runners are also removed from consideration as they declare for NCAA Division III competition in the post-season.
