Floen and Gesink Earn District Honors

(Monday, November 11; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Dordt College's Lindsey Floen and Kayla Gesink were named to the Capital One Academic All-District women's volleyball teams released November 8 by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

Floen, a senior from Sioux Center, Iowa, was named to the District 3 First-Team and Gesink, a junior from Sioux Center, Iowa, was named to the District 3 Second-Team.

Floen is a Business Administration: Marketing/Finance major and has played in all 100 sets for the Defenders this season.  Floen is averaging 2.77 kills and 1.07 blocks per contest for the no. 16 ranked Defenders and she has a .365 kill efficiency.

Gesink, a Business Administration/Education major, has played in all 100 sets as well an averages 10.39 assists per set with 1.1 kills and 2.40 digs.  She also has a .422 kill efficiency and averages a block every two sets.

Capital One Academic All-District selections are voted on by members of CoSIDA after a nomination process.  To be nominated an athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior and must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.  The student-athlete’s contribution to their school's athletic program is also taken into account in the voting.

Floen is now eligible for honors on the national level. Those honors will be voted on in November with the Capital One Academic All-American honors announced in early December.

CoSIDA began the Academic All-America program in the 1950's, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports and across all divisions with these elite Capital One Academic All-America  scholar-athlete honors. Currently, CoSIDA honors Academic All-Americans in 12 sports.
