November 18, 2013

The community is invited to attend a joint music recital featuring Dordt College students Joelle Lieuwen and Emil Talen in Dordt’s B.J. Haan Auditorium on Friday, November 22, at 7:30 p.m. A reception will follow in the lobby.

Violinist Lieuwen of Lethbridge, Alberta, will perform Baroque pieces by Bach and Romantic pieces by Bruch and Kreisler. She will be accompanied by pianist MaryLou Wielenga.

Lieuwen is a senior majoring in clinical psychology with a minor in music performance. She is the concert master of the Dordt College Chamber Orchestra. She has also been a featured orchestral soloist and has attended Western University’s (London, Ontario) Don Wright Faculty of Music for music performance in 2010-11. Lieuwen studies violin with instructor Lisa Miedema.

Tuba player Talen of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, will perform the three-movement Concerto for Tuba by Edward Gregson. “This was the first tuba solo I heard in my life, and I want to play it for all to enjoy,” said Talen.

Talen is a 2012 Honor Band participant and studies tuba with instructor Vance Shoemaker. He will be accompanied by pianist Norma Snyder Jones.
